MWC Classic Covert Black PVD Steel Aviator Watch with 24 Jewel Automatic Movement and 100m Water Resistance

SKU: SM/AV/PVD

The MWC Classic Aviator Automatic combines the timeless look of 1950s pilot watches with modern engineering and upgraded durability. It features a 100m / 330ft water-resistant stainless steel case with a matte black non-reflective PVD finish, together with a screw-down crown and caseback for enhanced protection in demanding conditions.

Inside is the highly regarded 24-jewel Seiko NH35 automatic movement, offering dependable performance, a 41-hour power reserve, and a hacking function for precise time setting. The watch is fitted with a scratch and shatter-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating for excellent clarity and everyday resilience.

Covert Matte Black PVD Finish

The specialist Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD) finish used on this model is widely favoured for military, police, and security applications where a low-profile, non-reflective appearance is essential.

Unlike painted coatings found on lower-cost watches, PVD bonds with the metal surface at a molecular level, creating a finish that is far more durable and resistant to fading or wear. With normal use, it remains intact for many years. We regularly see examples of our PVD watches from decades ago still retaining their original finish.

Why Choose Sapphire Crystal?

Many customers ask why sapphire crystal is considered such an upgrade over mineral glass.

Synthetic sapphire is widely regarded as the premium material for watch crystals thanks to its exceptional scratch resistance, strength, and long-term clarity. It is particularly valued by military personnel, emergency services, police officers, and anyone with an active outdoor lifestyle.

While mineral glass can crack or scratch under heavy use, sapphire offers a far higher level of durability. It is produced using a specialised heat-treatment process that removes internal stresses and enhances structural strength. Once formed into watch crystals, anti-reflective coating is applied to improve visibility in bright conditions.

Because of its higher manufacturing cost, sapphire crystal is typically reserved for better-quality watches — making it a worthwhile upgrade for anyone seeking maximum durability and performance.
