Description
MWC first introduced this 300m / 1000ft water-resistant diver’s watch in the early 1990s, with a series of evolutionary updates over the following years. Among the various versions produced, the 1999–2001 dial configuration proved to be the most popular, valued for its clean, uncluttered layout and excellent night-time legibility. This model faithfully retains that dial design.
While the original watches used tritium lume, this modern version features Luminova, while retaining the encircled “T” on the dial as a nod to the historical specification.
There is a particularly interesting backstory associated with this design. Although the model was officially discontinued in 2007, an Australian MWC distributor later rediscovered 500 brand-new quartz examples in storage. These watches had been overlooked when the original owner’s father retired; why exactly 500 remained was unclear, but around the year 2000 the distributor had an ongoing procurement contract supplying 500 units per year.
When these watches were discovered, they were returned to Europe, fully inspected, and pressure-tested before being released. Their rapid sell-out confirmed continued demand for the design and led directly to its reintroduction with substantial upgrades, including sapphire crystals and 120-click unidirectional bezels across the range.
This version features a black non-reflective PVD-treated stainless steel case, a finish commonly specified for military contracts. The Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD) process alters the surface of the steel at a molecular level, producing a highly durable, wear-resistant coating suitable for demanding operational use.
The case design itself originates from MRP S.A. (Switzerland) and has remained largely unchanged since the 1970s. Variations of this same case have been used by well-known brands including Precista, Nilax, Heuer, and CWC.
This watch follows British Ministry of Defence (MOD) specifications and is supplied with a 20mm NATO strap.
